Funny logo of the day…
Tuesday, April 29, 2008

This is the new logo for the Office of Government Commerce. So far, so blah.

New OGC logo

When it was rolled out, it didn’t take long for the OGC staff to look at the new brand logo (emblazoned on mouse mats and so forth) from all angles.

Still can’t see what’s funny about it? Scroll down…

OGC Logo

They’re going ahead with it anyway. A spokesman for the OGC said (I shit you not) this:

We concluded that the effect was generic to the particular combination of the letters ‘OGC’ – and is not inappropriate to an organisation that’s looking to have a firm grip on government spend

Looks like it’s going to be, basically, amazing.

CHROMEO @ Camden KoKo///////// Vice Kills @ Proud Gallery
Monday, April 21, 2008

I’m obviously way behind on the ol’ posts here, but this one’s a good ‘un.

Last Friday, everyone who’s anyone beat a path to North London. Chromeo at the KoKo (long sold out) and Vice Kills at the excellently refurbed Proud Gallery, with our mates People Are Germs, our mate Mumdance, the super Death Set and a whole bunch more.

GenEric bust in to the Koko at the 11th hour thanks to the extra cool Matt Stallyn from the Wyld Stallyns and…. um…. wow

And then on to the The Lock Tavern, where the Small Disco was in full effect.

When that shut, it was straign across the road to the aforementioned Vice Kills at the Proud Gallery where we shot the breeze with the fellows Chromeo. Dave thought that he and I looked like a gay couple. Cheers Dave.

Good night.

Peter Saville in conversation in Brighton
Wednesday, April 16, 2008

So, I nearly wet my pants when I found out that probably my favorite all time designer Peter Saville was going to be in conversation in Brighton. He was booked by this monthly arts / culture conversation evening called The Space. They’ve had some pretty great guests – someone there must be pretty well connected.

The evening in question took place last week at The Joogleberry in Kemptown. Despite the inane questioning (“So, what was Ian Curtis like as a person?”, “So, Wham! What was that all about?”), it was fantastic to get a tiny insight into Saville’s work and his feelinigs about his career. A highlight would have to be “I don’t really like design, I don’t really like music”. For me, his work has always operated outside of both those spheres – music and design – so it was nice to hear that.

Legend

I also got my Peter Saville book signed and had a little chinwag afterwards. A funny little man asked him to sign his Unknown Pleasures record. Saville didn’t really want to since they are “so valuable”. The little fella said he didn’t care, so as a compromise, Saville signed the inner sleeve instead.

Our Change is Changing.

Here’s what our new coins are gonna look like. I reckon they’re nice, and a complete vision for the design, which makes a change from all the memorial and special event coins that have been coming out over recent years. The designing recently has been a bit of a hotchpotch I always think.

One of the coolest things about the new coins is that they were designed by a guy called Matt Dent, who I went to University with here in Brighton. Big up the University of Brighton Alumni.

Be Your Own Pet///////// Audio Brighton///////// March 31st 2008
Thursday, April 3, 2008

Its been a hectic week, what with catching up after our snail’s-pace move and everything. If that weren’t enough, we’ve been hitting the town a fair bit too, starting off with the super-fantastic Be Your Own Pet from Nashville on Monday night. They went at it 100% as only teenage punk kids can (yes thats right – teenage. And they’re touring their second album. Amazing.)

There was crowd surfing a-plenty, which is always nice to see, especially when someones foot inadvertently smashed a mirrorball, creating a glittering shower, all be it one that will take your eye out if you’re not careful.

Props to Katie for the pics:
