Well, it worked for Anton’s Egg (I got one!!!!!) so I thought I’d make my new campaign a benefit along the lines of “someone get me one of these”.

Such a great Aesthetic / Aural combination. You can program samples in there and everything, so you’re not constrained my sounds. Reminds me a little of the live touch-screens that Daft Punk used in their guest spot with Kanye West at the Grammys this year. Even the Bubblegum Sequencer I blogged last year.

Dorkiest Post Ever.

OK, we’re here finally!!! The new GenEric HQ is fully functional now, and we’re back in the game people – new tees on their way!

Meantime, I have been doing a bit of moonlighting designing websites for a couple of people, so have been brushing up on some of the things I forgot since the last sites I did. Fuck all those IT pricks though – I got down with my man the SEO Rapper*, AKA The Poetic Prophet. He dropped the knowledge f’real.

*SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. Like I said, dorkiest post ever.

Juici Patties… Mmmmmm
Friday, March 14, 2008

GenEric HQ is moving, slower than a space shuttle on its way to the launch pad, across Brighton. Our boho North Laine studio is being turned into flats (obviously) so we’ve commandeered the top floor of a building opposite the town hall and made it our new home. We’ve even acquired a sweet sofa, so come over for a lazy cuppa, yeah?

While all this boxing up and arguing with BT is happening , we’ve been neglecting the Glob, so to keep you going, here’s a something that kept me going while I was in Jamaica last year. JUICI PATTIES! They are like these little pasties with all sort of horrifically amazing meat products inside. SO. DAMN. GOOD. I ate loads and loads and could have eaten twice as many.

Juici Patties
Plus they’re so cheap! Like a buck fifty each. Cor.
Juici Patties
I think you can get, like, cook at home Juici Patties in some of those Caribbean food stores in Shepherds Bush, but it ain’t the same – Jamaican fast food outlets kill it.

Woop! Looks like Slurm (the highly addictive soft drink from Futurama) may be coming to earth early. Twentieth Century Fox have filed a patent for Slurm, including this:

…carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks; fruit drinks; fruit juices; mineral and aerated water; bottled drinking water; energy drinks; syrups and powders for making soft drinks and other beverages, namely soft drinks, fruit drinks and tea; coffee-flavored soft drinks; Ramune (Japanese soda pops); powders used in the preparation of isotonic sports drinks and sports beverages.

Hopefully they won’t get it from the excretions of a giant space-slug queen though……

Magnetic Field Light Show
Monday, March 3, 2008

This is great. Basically, Richard Box, an artist type from Brizzle, chucked a local farmer 200 notes to let him use one of his fields to take some photos. The field in question had a couple of huge electricity pylons in it, and Richard thought that he might be able to do something with the electro-magnetic field.

So he stuck loads of flourescent tubes in the ground and what do you know – it only worked!

Box explains:

A fluorescent tube glows when an electrical voltage is set up across it. The electric field set up inside the tube excites atoms of mercury gas, making them emit ultraviolet light. This invisible light strikes the phosphor coating on the glass tube, making it glow. Because power lines are typically 400,000 volts, and Earth is at an electrical potential voltage of zero volts, pylons create electric fields between the cables they carry and the ground.

He did some more in the snow:

Here’s a 360º panorama.

This work kinda puts me in mind of the sleeve for the Battles amazing Tonto+ EP. The pics for that sleeve were done at some quarry in Wales during their UK tour and my brother who works with Battles was there! Props!
